People and horses...there is something magical about the connection. Research has shown that time spent with horses lowers blood pressure, slows heart rate and relieves stress.
These magestic creatures are herd animals. They seek harmony and balance in community. As prey animals they will normally flee from danger and only when there is no way out will they fight. They seek to live at peace and are quick readers of danger. They are ever mindful of their surroundings and pick up on the most subtle of cues. Horses have a way of exposing humans. They mirror our attitudes and sense our moods often before we know we are emitting a particular attitude or in a mood.
We have an 18 year old mare who reads us like an open book. One day I had had a particularly rough day. We were at the stable where she was boarded at the time preparing for my teen to take a riding lesson. I was not fully present and somewhat frustrated still from the day. She gently but with meaning bumped my arm with her head. I didn't pay any mind to it really. I was still not really there but thinking about the day. She bumped my arm harder and looked at me. I mindlessly rubbed her head. She bumped me again. I was a bit irritated at her now. I looked at her with a kind of "what?" look. Her eyes were soft and her lower lip soft. She stepped gently towards me, lowered her head to my hand and waited. I got the message. I had come to see her so why was I still somehwere else? Horses live in the now. They are fully present and mindful of where they are and who and what is around them. I had to smile at her gentle calling me out. The rest of the evening was timeless and calming. Amazingly the roughness of the earlier part of the day faded away.
Horses call us to be authentic, present and mindful. They create an atmosphere of healing. Call today!
